Menswear to kill for

Prophetik's autumn/winter collection at London Fashion Week brings American Civil War fashion to the 21st century

London Fashion Week has tended, over the years, to be more concerned with women’s clothes than men’s. More recently however menswear has been gradually building in prominence, particularly with the support of the annual Man showcase – a collaboration between Topman and Fashion East.
This year, Prophetik’s autumn/winter collection furthered the menswear cause with a brilliant show inspired by the American Civil War. Who hasn’t at some stage admired the sharp Unionist blues and Confederate greys that leap from the history books? Who, after seeing Gone With The Wind, didn't want to put themselves in Rhett Butler’s frockcoat, stetson, and black plantation tie? If for no other reason than to plant a ruthless kiss on Scarlett O’Hara's scarlet lips.
Prophetik’s ‘all sustainable’ collection uses herringbone hemp and recycled bottles and aims to create clothes that are strong enough to withstand the tests of time, both in terms of durability and style. And given that Civil War chic is back today after 150 odd years, the collection will presumably be a sound long-term investment for your children's children's children.
The London Fashion Week show opened with a bang with live music from Man Raze – a band comprised of former members of the Sex Pistols and Def Leppard, playing against 'turntablist' DJ Richie Rich, who is, one can only presume, somewhat rich.
Prophetik is currently stocked in over 60 high-end boutiques in the United States, Japan, Switzerland, France and the United Kingdom.
